Philosophy and Approach to Counseling. I believe we are who we are today because of our past experiences and environment. Wounded as children, we are generally not fully aware of why we do what we do, including our behavior in relationships. We tend to see situations through the lens of our early beliefs which also impacts our concept of self. When thinking becomes distorted, actions are often in direct contrast to the values we have learned as truth. Issues to be resolved will be addressed with the idea that self-awareness leads to choice, responsibility and change. My approach with couples is to assist in the process of evaluating available strengths and resources in the relationship and to assess current lifestyle, thoughts, beliefs, feelings and spiritual or religious issues. To gain self-awareness in the relationship, the family system may be explored in a direct but non confrontational way. While there are risks involved and no guarantees of what will be experienced or accomplished, therapy often leads to better and more fulfilling relationships.
Education, Training, and Experience. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the State of Oregon and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with the State of Washington. I received a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from George Fox University. I annually participate in continuing education in specialized areas to be able to provide quality treatment for my clients and as a condition of my licensure in both Washington and Oregon.

Philosophy and Approach: I believe the individual is comprised of body, mind, and spirit and each aspect influences the individual’s wellness. I believe an integrative approach to counseling addresses the needs of the whole person. I believe individuals are greatly affected by the way they communicate, process and perceive internal and external messages. Using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Theory and Communication Theory, the client and the therapist will work in conjunction to understand and explore how perceptions, distortions, unconscious and conscious awareness can provide insight into where an individual may be having difficulty in various areas of their life. Communication and cognitions can play an important role in patterns of behavior, beliefs, thoughts, emotions, boundaries, relationships, and the ability to accept, let go, and/or experience the necessary changes to obtain clarity and insight where change is needed. My goal is to provide hope, trust and a safe space to assist the client through the therapeutic process and provide them with tools, techniques, and exercises that will help them in the counseling setting, but also skills they can utilize once their counseling is complete.
Formal Education and Training: I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the State of Oregon and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with the State of Washington. I received a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from George Fox University. I am certified by the National Board of Counseling, hold a Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from Warner Pacific College and have provisional certification as a Family Life Educator from the National Council on Family Relations. I annually participate in continuing education in specialized areas to be able to provide quality treatment for my clients and as a condition of my licensure in both Washington and Oregon.

It's my privilege to work as a Mental Health Counselor. I offer a safe, non judgmental, place where people can explore their thoughts, feelings, and concerns. I have expertise addressing relationship conflicts, child/parent struggles, separation/divorce, substance abuse, and codependency issues. When we are suffering and in need of counseling we sometimes endure a great deal before we recognize there is a problem that needs to be addressed. If you find yourself struggling in any one of these areas call me to help you find the joy in everyday life.
I provide individual and couples therapy for adults and teenagers with a range of emotional and life problems. My approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Structural Family Therapy, by integrating this two approaches I am better able to help my clients heal past wounds and overcome current struggles.
